WHAT IS A NURSE PRACTITIONER?

A Certified Family Nurse Practitioner is Certified by The American Association of Nurse Practitioners and licensed in the State of New Mexico to practice as a primary care provider. Advanced Practice Nurses assess, treat, and manage acute and chronic health conditions. We prescribe medications including controlled substances for pain. We act autonomously and in the State of N.M do not require the oversight of a medical doctor due to our advanced education and training. Nurse Practitioners legally own and operate clinics and medical practices, such as CWFM.

The International Journal for Quality in Health Care (2015) published research by Columbia University and Vanderbilt University which concludes, “There were few differences in primary care provided by APNs and physicians; for some measures APN care was superior” Find out more…

The National Governors Association and the Institute of Medicine IOM state APN's practice to the “full extent of their education and training” Physician supervision or groups that limit ANP practice “may sometimes restrict competition unnecessarily, which can be detrimental to health care consumers, “decreased access to health care services, higher health care costs, reduced quality of care, and less innovation in health care delivery.” Find out more…
