Prospective Students
At Cottonwood Family Medicine we are committed to the growth and development of future medical providers. We do accept nurse practitioner and physician assistant students for clinical placement on a case-by-case bases.
I believe future providers should be able to advance their education through prior nursing knowledge. Students should be able to identify and respond to a medical emergency or work with medically complex patients in a fast-paced environment. We request nursing, student applicants have prior experience in the emergency room, acute care setting or combination of hospital and family practice experience within the last 5 years. At this time, we do not accept students who have primarily worked in hospice, infusion centers, nursing facilities or home healthcare. This ensures the safety of our patients, as well as provides the best clinical environment for building on your prior education.
Physician assistant students would need to contact us directly to discuss the specifics of your program to determine eligibility for placement.
Accepted candidates work one on one with a provider and only one student is in clinic at a time. We do guarantee agreed upon hours for completion of rotation requirements. The goal of CWFM students is to be able to independently exam patients, formulate differential diagnoses and develop an appropriate treatment plan by the end of their rotation.
There is a fee associated with clinical hours as the provider does spend extensive time in teaching and does not carry a separate patient load on the days of clinical rotation.
If you are interested in a rotation with our provider, please complete the form below or email us at cottowoodfamilymed@gmail.com
